Development and training

“My motivation was seen and I was put forward for various different training courses. It really impacted on me, how, with that training, the difference I was making. So it’s been really rewarding working for Sense”

Development and training

We support everyone who works for Sense to reach their full potential. Whether you’re a support worker, an administrator or a manager you’ll find opportunities to learn and grow.

If you join Sense as a support worker, you don’t need to have previous experience or qualifications - we’ll teach you everything you need to know. And if you join us further along your career path, you’ll also have access to plenty of opportunities to expand and develop your specialist, management and leadership skills.

When you first join Sense

When you first join our team, you’ll get an induction tailored specifically to your role.

With a mixture of online and face-to-face training, you’ll learn about Sense, our vision and our values, as well as practical skills to help you in your role.

If you’re in a role directly supporting people with complex disabilities, you’ll receive all the support and training you need to provide safe and effective support.

During your time at Sense

Your training doesn’t stop at your induction. From workplace coaching, to online courses, to external leadership programmes, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to continue to learn, develop and grow.

We offer a programme of over 150 online and face-to-face learning opportunities, including:

  • Essential training - such as first aid, medication awareness and regulatory certificate(s).
  • Wellbeing courses - such as supporting you with mindfulness or keeping active.
  • Personal development courses - such as time management, mentoring, unconscious bias and assertiveness skills.
  • Practice development - for frontline support workers, including communication methods, guiding, identity, sexuality and personal relationships, personalisation and active support and healthcare training.
  • Leadership and management development - from people management basics for new managers, through to our leadership programme.
