​Could you be a Sense Communicator Guide?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Communicator Guide/ Support Worker to join our fantastic Community Service in Liverpool.  This is a permanent role, working 4 hours per week on Saturdays with potential for additional hours.

Usual hours of work are between 10am-4pm and occasionally out of hours support may also be required. We are offering £9.79 per hour with enhanced rates for overtime and annual pay reviews/ rises.

Our Community Service provides valuable support for individuals with sensory loss to live the life they want, providing support which is led by the individual to reduce their social isolation. This role would suit someone looking for an additional rewarding role to help an individual take part in life.

You will support an individual out in the community to participate in social activities with their family.  The individual would love support to go on day trips, shopping, to the park and other social family activities. No day is the same so this is a fantastic position for an adventurous support worker!

You should be prepared to support a manual wheelchair user and should have the physical ability to push a wheelchair. Candidate and the individual may be accompanied by family members when out in the community, including travelling together. The purpose of the role is to provide a high quality, reliable support service, personalised to suit the individual. To promote independence, choice and enhance inclusion within the community. 

The duties are varied, and no two days will be the same. The people we support are individuals and they are all treated as such. As a general guide, you will help to take part in a wide range of special interests and activities that support their health and wellbeing. You will be supporting an independent individual, living in their own home.

You must have a valid UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle to transport the client to various activities.

Key skills and experience:

  • To support individuals / groups within the centre and community.
  • To provide a customised, responsive and high quality service to people with multiple sensory impairments, physical and/or learning disabilities who use Sense services.
  • Knowledge of BSL would be desired but is not essential. 
  • Experience of supporting individuals with complex needs is desirable.
