Could you be a Sense Support Worker?

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Support Worker to join our wonderful team in Accrington. 

This is a permanent role, with contracts available from 24 to 36 hours per week, depending on your suitability/availability. 

Shifts are usually, Monday-Sunday, 07.30am-7.30pm or 09.30am-9.30pm. This would mean you could work only 1-3 days per week but there are additional hours available for those who want them. We are offering £9.75 per hour with enhanced rates for overtime and annual pay reviews/ rises.

Sense Accrington is a residential service providing valuable support to 6 individuals with dual sensory impairments and complex disabilities. The service has access to a large wrap-around garden with raised flower beds and a sensory garden for people to grow their own herbs, there is also a secluded area that is perfect for a pool on a sunny day, we have ample seating areas outside for the supported individuals to enjoy a cocktail or drink of choice

There is also a designated art room to undertake crafts and music sessions and sensory areas throughout the home which can be adapted to meet the individual needs.

The main purpose of your job is to support people to be as involved as possible in every part of their day to day lives so that they can be full and active members of society. You will support the individuals in their home and within the community with a wide range of activities such as personal care, cleaning, cooking, laundry, going to the gym, park, swimming.

This really is a fantastic time to join Sense Accrington – as we move forward into summer you will be able to arrange and attend weekly day trips with a lunch provided, we have a weekly session at the hydro pool that is enjoyed by supported individuals and staff alike.

Support Worker, Duties:

  • To support individuals at home, and within the community.
  • To provide a customised, responsive, and high-quality service to people with multiple sensory impairments, physical and/or learning disabilities who use Sense services.
  • To deliver services which meet or exceed organisational expectations and standards.
  • Keep the needs of the people you are supporting at the centre of your attention.
  • Enable the people you support to influence their services and the way they are supported.
  • To assist individuals to access the community with the use of Sense vehicles  
  • To work well within a team.
  • To have a working knowledge of all policies and procedures within the home.
  • To maintain confidentiality on all aspects of care and your work within the home.
  • Complete mandatory Sense training

Support Worker, Desired Experiences:

  •  Experience of working in a care setting
  •  Ability to support people with mobility problems
  •  Experience of teamwork
  •  Being able to drive or having a suitable transport method to and from the service is a real help as public transport is not always available.
  •  Knowledge of multi-sensory impairments / learning difficulties is beneficial.
