Could you be a Sense Cafe Supervisor?

Sense have a fanatstic opportunity for a Cafe Supervisor, to join our site on Northernhay Street, Exeter. This is a permanent position working 24 hrs per week. We are flexible with the hours available if you are looking for less, drop us a call to discuss on 01392 848499.

These hours are worked Tuesday to Friday from 9am until 3pm.  We are centrally located, close to main bus routes, train stations and car parks so easily accessible!

Our Café has a fully equipped commercial kitchen and is based in Exeter Centre. During the lockdown we had to diversify and change our offering and our way of working. We soon identified that there is a lot of loneliness and isolation in our community, so we worked with local charities, community groups and churches and created lunch clubs and coffee mornings. These regular meals are cooked, prepared and served by us in a variety of venues within our local community. We plan our menus in advance offering two main meals and two desserts during each sitting. It is incredibly satisfying to create a happy social environment and help people feel included and valued.

We open our doors once a month for our longstanding regular customers and Sense service users from across our services including Residential homes and Supported Living. It’s a fabulous day to reconnect, socialise, catch up and cater for our Café friends.

This role requires a good working knowledge of cooking, external catering and menu planning. You will require to have use of your own vehicle and the ability to lift, carry and deliver the food boxes and collect food donations throughout the city.

Staff Quote:

"I have worked for Sense for over 12 years now and it’s been an enriching and rewarding experience to date with the best staff and colleagues to work alongside and a real sense of teamwork.

The Cafe has grown over the years from initially opening just one day a week to opening to full time as a not-for-profit social enterprise to where we are today out in the community. It’s been hard work but an incredibly satisfying time. Making a difference in people’s day to day lives, bringing them together, seeing friendly faces and having meaningful conversations and of course providing fabulous meals.

There is a real sense of inclusion, achievement, ownership and pride that this Café brings to us the staff and those who visit us and to those who we provide for in the community. It is a unique role with the ability to grow its potential and become even more established locally"
