Could you be a Sense Community Support Worker/ Communicator Guide?

Sense has some fantastic opportunities for a Community support workers / Communicator Guides to join our services in London. This particular role is based in Tooting. Offering £11.37 per hour (Includes Inner London Allowance) This is a unique post is for 24 hours per week, 3hrs per day 7 days per week depending on your suitability / availability. With option to also take on close by community location work to build up weekly hours if appropriate for you!

You will be suppporting an individual who requires support for their social developmental needs, including increasing his communication by building on his existing language, British Sign Language. They are currently residing in a Deaf Adult inpatient service, at Springfield hospital. They would like support to regain confidence to access the community and participate in social activities both at home and in the community. Also, to develop confidence living with deaf/blindness. This support will enable this individual to regain strength and momentum in learning to engage once again in social stimulation, communication and interaction that has been ‘lost’ over the years.

You will be working in the London community with individuals with a range of differing needs and or requirements, these individuals may need support during office hours in the week or ad hoc support on weekends. You should also have knowledge of BSL with previous tactile hands-on signing experience desired. 

This individual enjoys Arts, cooking, tactile puzzles and games like Jenga and physical exercise – They are a very kind natured individual with a good sense of humour. This is a fantastic role to build 1-1 report and to help someone to live the life they chose. If yoy are looking for an incredibly rewarding and valuable job role then this is for you!

Community Support Worker / Communictaor Guide, Eastr Ham Desired Eperiences:

  • Be able to adapt your communication style to meet the needs of those you are working with and where necessary develop new skills to enable communication through sign and symbols.
  • You should also have knowledge of BSL with previous tactile hands-on signing experience desired. 
  • Experience of working independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Willing and able to accompany/participate in leisure activities of the person’s choice.
