About the role

Sense International has an exciting opportunity for new Trustees to join our Board. 

Sense International is the leading international NGO supporting people with deafblindness in Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Nepal, Tanzania, Peru, Romania and Uganda. We work to ensure no-one is left behind, across health / early years, education and vocational / livelihoods, through programmes and advocacy. We work with governments to ensure services are sustainable and inclusive. We transform lives!

Our strategy is focussed on removing barriers in societies and systems so that people with deafblindness are fully included; improving understanding of deafblindness through sharing skills and information; ensuring the voice of people with deafblindness is heard and their rights are realised.  We receive funding from the FCDO, trusts, foundations and individuals. We are looking for candidates with an interest in international development and disability inclusion. The role will involve:

  • Contributing to SI’s strategic development and ensuring oversight of the organisation’s strategy. 
  • Representing SI’s vision and values and being an ambassador for Sense International
  • Ensuring good governance and compliance
  • Supporting SI’s fundraising and contributing other skills and experience to support the organisation to thrive.

We are particularly seeking new board members who are UK residents and would bring one or more of the following:

  • Professional charity fundraising skills and experience
  • Human resources skills and experience
  • Connections in the corporate world / the city
  • Connections with one or more of the countries where we work

The Board meets quarterly and the appointment will be initially for a three-year term.
