Could you be a Sense Support Worker?

It's an exciting time as Sense now have an opportunity for a Support Worker to join our residential service in Exeter. With both part time or full time positions availble to suit your availability / suitability, contracts are available with weekly hours up to 37.5 hours per week. Normal shifts are 7 hours, usually 8am – 3pm, 3 – 10pm.

You will be joining a great team here in Exeter, who provide meaningful support to individuals who have complex and challenging needs. You will be supporting individuals to participate in a variety of activities in their local and wider community, these include swimming, tennis, gym, climbing, music groups, festivals, opera’s, musicals, watching Exeter City play, short breaks and holidays both here and abroad. Previously we supported individuals to go to Dorset, Cornwall, and even abroad to Lanzarote! We are located in Exeter City Centre so are very close to all amenities with easy public transport links.

The skills you will develop within this role both personally and professionally will be numerous. These include working as part of a team, but also having the autonomy to work on own initiative. You will have access to training and professional qualifications. You will develop a wide range of communication skills, from sign language to using widget, advocating on behalf of the individual to ensure that they are receiving the best possible support.

  • To support individuals / groups within the home, centre and community.
  • To provide a customised, responsive and high quality service to people with multiple sensory impairments, physical and/or learning disabilities who use Sense services.
  • To deliver services which meet or exceed organisational expectations and standards.

Support worker, Exeter, Desired Experience:

  •  A full manual UK license and willingness to drive is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of or qualification in British Sign Language or similar is beneficial ( BSL / Makaton etc.)
  • You don’t need to have previous experience in this field, nor do you need qualifications – we’re happy to work with you to help you become an excellent support worker. 
  • The willingness to learn, be open minded and to be flexible and adaptable is essential.
  • Prior experience of supporting individuals with sensory impairments / learning disabilities and challenging behaviours is desirable.
