Could you be a Sense Children's Service Assistant?

It's an exciting time as Sense has just released its new strategy, we now have an opportunity for a Children's Service Assistant to join our service in Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland.

This is a permanent contract working 16.25 hours per week. 

You will join a fantastic team here in Newtownabbey who provide a quality service to the children we support. 

As a Children’s Services Assistant, you will provide support to children with a dual sensory loss, physical disability, moderate/severe learning disability including Autistic Spectrum Disorders and also children who have complex medical needs.

As a member of the Sense Nursery/Play Sense staff you will be part of a team providing a safe, creative developmental environment for a small number of children (0 - 12) with special needs to reach their full potential.

You will provide direct support to the children, meeting their personal needs as well as support to engage in a range of activities. You will also be responsible for the care of the Nursery environment.

The duties are varied and no two days will be the same. The people we support are individuals and they are all treated as such. As a general guide, you may support with personal care needs, as well as help to take part in a wide range of special interests and activities that support their health and wellbeing.

Your duties can include:

  • To support children with a dual sensory loss, physical disability, moderate/severe learning disability including Autistic Spectrum Disorders and also children who have complex medical needs.
  • To provide a customised, responsive and high quality service to the children we support.
  • To deliver services which meet or exceed organisational expectations and standards.

Your required skills and experiences:

  • You should have experience of providing direct support to children aged between 0-12 with special needs in a Nursery or Afterschool’s setting.
  • Childcare qualification at Level 3 or above is desireable
  • We require you to be motivated, enthusiastic and have the ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Knowledge of multi sensory impairments / learning difficullties is beneficial.
