Could you be a Sense Support Worker/ Intervenor?

It's an exciting time as Sense has just released its new strategy, we now have an opportunity for a Support Worker/ Intervenor at our purpose built Sense TouchBase Centre in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

This is a permanent role working 6 hours every Saturday and your shift will be from 10am- 4pm. 

You will join a fantastic team here in Selly Oak where we support young adults who have multi-sensory impairments and additional needs.

As an intervenor, you will support the individuals to build their communication skills through your interactions with them.

You will also support the individuals to engage in sensory activities and enjoy new experiences.

The duties are varied and no two days will be the same. The people we support are individuals and they are all treated as such. You will also have opportunities to take accredited Intervenor training.

Your duties can include:

  • To support individuals / groups within the centre and community.
  • Day to day activities led by the needs and aspirations of the people / person you'll be supporting.
  • To provide a customised, responsive and high quality service to people with multiple sensory impairments, physical and/or learning disabilities who use Sense services.
  • To deliver services which meet or exceed organisational expectations and standards.
  • Full job specification is attached below.

Your required skills and experiences:

  • Knowledge of or qualification in British Sign Language or similar is desirable ( BSL / Makaton etc.) If you do not know BSL, you must be willing to learn basic BSL.
  • Experience of working in this field both independently as well as in a team setting is essential.
  • Knowledge of multi sensory impairments / learning difficullties is beneficial.
