Could you be a Sense Support Worker?

It's an exciting time as Sense has just released its new strategy, we now have an opportunity for a Support Worker to join our service in Edgbaston, Birmingham .  

This is a Permanent full- time role, working 37.5 hours a week.

As a Support Worker, you will join a fantastic team in a residential service based in Edgbaston which houses 7 individuals with sensory and learning disabilities.

The individuals we support are aged between 25 and 58 and lead a happy, varied and fulfilled lifestyles that reflect their individuality and preferences.

We enjoy going out daily and have an active schedule. Some of the activities we like to do are; attending our resource centre Touchbase Pears for Massage sessions, art, sports and wellbeing and accessing the café.

In addition to this, we also like to do activites like adapted cycling, Hydro swimming sessions, bowling, ice skating, outdoor pursuits, sailing and wheelie boat sessions, meals out, pub visits, weekly rambles visiting local parks and also visiting places of natural beauty. The staff team arrange day trips and provide support on holidays in the UK and abroad. 

At home we like to relax and enjoy being pampered with foot spa’s massages, having our hair and nails done and also enjoy cooking, baking, arts and crafts and developing our daily living skills. 

As a Support Worker, you will support the individuals with medication, eating and drinking, preparing meals, personal care, continence support and help with our mobility in and out of the home. 

The individuals need support 24 hours a day 7 days a week and currently require a day Support Worker for early and late shifts on varied shift patterns. You will be working for 5 days and the shifts do include weekends.

The duties are varied and no two days will be the same. The people we support are individuals and they are all treated as such.

Your duties can include:

  • To support individuals / groups within the home, centre and community.
  • To provide a customised, responsive and high quality service to people with multiple sensory impairments, physical and/or learning disabilities who use Sense services.
  • To deliver services which meet or exceed organisational expectations and standards.
  • Full job specification is attached below.

Your required skills and experiences:

  • You require a full manual UK license and must be willing/able to drive.
  • Knowledge of or qualification in British Sign Language or similar is desirable ( BSL / Makaton etc.)
  • You don’t need to have previous experience in this field, nor do you need qualifications – we’re happy to work with you to help you become an excellent support worker. 
  • Knowledge of multi sensory impairments / learning difficullties is beneficial.
