Could you be a Sense Support Worker?

It's an exciting time as Sense has just released its new strategy, we now have an opportunity for a Support Worker to join our service in Kingstanding, Birmingham.

This is a permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week. 

You will join our fantastic team here at Kingstanding, where you will be supported and able to grow and develop within your role.

The individuals we support like to be active. They enjoy going out daily and have an active schedule such as attending our resource centre Touchbase Pears for Massage sessions, art, sports and wellbeing and accessing the café, in addition to this, we attend externally: adapted cycling, Hydro swimming sessions, bowling, ice skating, outdoor pursuits, sailing and wheelie boat sessions, meals out, pub visits, weekly rambles visiting local parks and also visit places of natural beauty. The staff team arrange day trips and also support on holidays in the UK and abroad. 

We are looking for someone who can support the individuals with taking medication, eating and drinking, preparing meals, personal care, continence support and also help with our mobility in and out of the home.  

At home the individuals we support like to relax and enjoy being pampered with foot spa’s massages, having their hair and nails done and also enjoy cooking, baking, arts and crafts and developing our daily living skills.

The individuals will require support 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and currently require day support workers for early and late shifts on a varied pattern. The current shift pattern we have are as follows: 7am-2:30pm and 2pm-9:30pm.

The duties are varied and no two days will be the same. The people we support are individuals and they are all treated as such. As a general guide, you may support with personal care needs, as well as help to take part in a wide range of special interests and activities that support their health and wellbeing.

Your duties can include:

  • To support individuals / groups within the home, centre and community.
  • To provide a customised, responsive and high quality service to people with multiple sensory impairments, physical and/or learning disabilities who use Sense services.
  • To deliver services which meet or exceed organisational expectations and standards.
  • Full job specification is attached below.

Your required skills and experiences:

  • You require a full manual UK license and must be willing/able to drive our vehicle.
  • Knowledge of or qualification in British Sign Language or similar is desirable ( BSL / Makaton etc.)
  • You don’t need to have previous experience in this field, nor do you need qualifications – we’re happy to work with you to help you become an excellent support worker. 
  • Knowledge of multi sensory impairments / learning difficullties is beneficial.
