We’re looking for a unique person to support and enrich the life of an individual we support.
We are Sense, a high quality community service in Derby, who are passionate about supporting adults with complex needs, including sensory losses and learning disabilities.
We’re seeking to recruit a great new community support worker / communicator guide on a part time basis 2 days / 8 hours per week; someone with the right values and behaviours – could this be you?
You will make the day to day the best it can possibly be for both you and the person you will support. The person you will be supporting is Deaf and uses British Sign Language to communicate. You will find and create solutions to make the most out of every day. Here is what the person you will support is looking for from you:
“I am deaf with sight impaired. I use a wheelchair to help me get around in the community, and I also like to use my walking frame. I enjoy sports especially football. I love shopping and animals. With the support, I hope it will help me to build my confidence in the community, to socialise more and make friends.”
For genuine occupational reasons we are looking to appoint a female candidate only (exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9). You must have a valid manual UK driving licence and be willing to use our vehicle. You must be able to clearly communicate using British Sign Language / BSL.
However you don’t need to have previous experience in this field, nor do you need qualifications – we’re happy to work with you to help you become an excellent support worker. Above all we want someone that shares in our values. These are:
- We include, We collaborate, We find a way, We challenge, We celebrate.
Does this sound like it could be you? If so, read on…
The duties are varied and no two days will be the same. The people we support are individuals and they all treated as such. However, as a general guide, duties may include booking and attending appointments, visiting places of interest or leisure facilities, participating in social activities, maintaining contact with friends or accessing new social networks, as well as help to take part in a wide range of special interests and activities that support their health and wellbeing.
