Sense has a great opportunity for passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as a Children’s Community Support Worker / Intervenor in Watham Cross. This is a permanent role and would involve working between 3 and 9 hours per week.

We work with many families with varied requirements accross the whole of Hertfordshire. Your will be assessed and matched with a suitable family or families depending on your suitability/availability. Although this role is based in Waltham Cross, you may be able to support our families in the wider Hertfordshire area.

Bishop Stortford

Stevenage

Hitchin

Hertford.

About the role…

You will provide 1:1 support to children and adults who have been born with sight and hearing impairments – known as congenital deafblindness. In this role you will support from 3hrs per week after school & or weekends during term time and up to to 6hrs per week in school holidays 

Promote personal and social development whilst encouraging independence through enabling access to activities. Support the needs of the individual, which can be within their homes, out in the community or a combination of both environments.

You will receive specialist training in how to support individuals that have dual-sensory impairments, often combined with other disabilities.

As part of the service the you work in conjunction with other professionals to ensure a person-centred approach is implemented in to the support plan. This involves liaising with schools, speech & language therapists, physiotherapists and social workers.

You will also provide support for the individual’s families and siblings; this is through providing respite, specialist advice and knowledge to guide them through the challenges and developments experienced. What we provide allows families to have a break and feel safe in the knowledge that their family member is being supported in an appropriate and caring way by a trained member of staff.

About you…

Essential:

• Valid UK driving licence and able to travel to services.
• Previous experience is not essential as full training will be provided
• Able to demonstrate that you possess the right values and behaviours to enable you to make a difference to people’s lives
• Flexibility, as working times include evenings and some weekends. We will however provide you with a rota in advance so you can plan your life accordingly.
• Level 2 British Sign Language (L2 BSL)

Desirable:

• Access/use of own vehicle, if not, we require you to have a full UK licence for 2 years + which will enable you to drive our vehicles
