About the role

As the Chef/Catering Assistant at TouchBase Pears in Birmingham you will be a key part of the team in our high quality café and the catering provision at the centre; this café serves people Sense supports, the local community and also staff based at the location. This is a full time position working 37.5 hours per week.

This is a flexible role, working both in the kitchen as a chef, and customer facing in the café or serving catering at events, depending on the needs of the centre. Whatever your role on a given day, you will ensure that the standard of food and service in the café and at catered events is outstanding at all times and provide a warm welcome to all.

You will ensure environmental health standards are met to a high standard, that the café looks attractive and that the kitchen environment and café are clean and tidy, washing up and cleaning as needed.

As Chef you will be confident to work on your own or as a team, cooking a range of tasty food from scratch, and presenting it attractively. You will prepare takeaway options such as sandwiches and salads, to-order hot meals, and catering for events, communicating clearly with the front-facing staff.

When working as part of the front-facing team you will arrange and deliver catering for events, small and large scale. You will be efficient in using the till system, and in cash handling.  You will offer excellent customer service.

An ability to work flexible hours including regular early mornings, some evenings, and around 2-3 Saturdays per month, is essential.

About you

You will relish the idea of a flexible role that makes the most of your varied skills, and be happy to flex between areas as needed. You will have experience and/or a qualification as a chef, and also experience of a front-facing role in a catering environment. You will have the ability to work with enthusiasm, efficiency and energy. You will already hold a food hygiene qualification and be confident to run the kitchen, preparing food on your own or as part of a small team.

Our ideal candidate will have the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people and an interest in learning new communication methods. You will be passionate about what the Hive Café has to offer our on-site staff, tenants, people supported by Sense and our local community and will be an enthusiastic advocate for TouchBase Pears..
