About the role
Due to growth and expansion, Sense has some great opportunities for passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team at our Sense Centre in Luton. We have a number of Specialist Support Worker and Education Support Worker posts available, working up to 35 hours per week. Our Centre is open 8.45am to 3.45pm, Monday to Friday, for 45 weeks of the year.
This is a very exciting time for Sense, as we look to expand our services into our neighbouring town of Bedford in early 2019. We are looking for enthusiastic people with vision and drive to join our friendly team.
As a Specialist Support Worker you will support and enable people to live the life they choose: to make choices, to express themselves and live as independently as possible. Through patient support and encouragement, you will assist individuals to run their own lives by helping with personal care and feeding, supporting someone to engage with Sense activities such as swimming, arts, crafts, textiles, gardening, using technology and enable individuals to access their local community.
As an Education Support Worker you will support people who have dual or single sensory impairment, learning disabilities and / or autism, to be as involved as possible in every part of their day to day lives, so that they can be a full and active members of society. You will work closely with learners to achieve the long term goals identified in their learning plans through a range of classroom and community activities.
We also have casual (bank) opportunities in this area attracting an hourly rate of £7.83.
For our Specialist Support Worker roles, experience is not necessarily required as we are able to support you and provide you with an excellent induction and fundamental training package to give you the required skills. However, it is really important that you are able to demonstrate the right values and behaviours to enable you to make a positive difference to people’s lives.
For our Education Support Worker roles, previous experience of working within an educational environment with people who have sensory impairments, autism or learning disabilities would be an advantage, as would knowledge of BSL, Makaton, PECS or other methods of communication. GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths, as well as an understanding of setting targets, objectives and observations, is an essential requirement for this role.
