About Sense

Sense has been helping people who are deafblind and with sensory impairments to enjoy more independent lives for over 60 years.  We support and campaign for people of all ages, from children through to older people, with a wide range of sight and hearing difficulties and associated communication needs or additional learning disabilities. We provide tailored support, advice and information as well as specialist services to individuals, their families, carers and the professionals who work with them.

About the role

Are you an experienced Multi-Sensory Impairment Advisory teacher, HI or VI advisory teacher, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, or Practitioner Psychologist, and looking to further expand your specialist skills on a flexible consultancy basis?

Sense offers family support through family days, parent groups, and assessment as well as running a traded training and consultancy service to a range of organisations and agencies. With a reputation for providing high quality support, advice and assessments for MSI children, young people and their families, we are now expanding our range of services by creating a pool of Associate Practitioners.

Associates will provide consultancy services which will complement our existing skilled team, that will enable us to expand the range of services we provide. We are seeking independent qualified practitioners with a primary focus on our traded activities. These include:

  • Delivery of national training calendar
  • Provision of advisory teacher support to schools and colleges
  • Provision of advisory teacher mentoring and contributing to school improvement
  • Undertaking statutory assessments, including EHC plan, transition and deafblind guidance assessments
  • Developing resources and national sector support

Associates will be engaged to deliver specific projects on demand, and assignments could be completed working around your existing employment commitments, subject to your employer’s agreement.

You will already be:

  • An experienced advisory teacher with Mandatory Qualifications in teaching children with Multi-Sensory Impairment, Hearing Impairment or Vision Impairment;
  • An assessor who is able to undertake an assessment compliant with care and support for deafblind children and adults policy guidance (2014);
  • A Health & Care Professions Council registered professional (e.g. Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Practitioner Psychologist) with experience of sensory impairments who would be able to complement our multi-disciplinary team.

We have a range of opportunities for different projects across the country. All associate roles  will be self employed and fees are dependent upon the nature of the work undertaken.

We would also consider secondment arrangements for associate practitioners (subject to employer agreement).

This is an opportunity to work with highly talented, diverse and supportive colleagues who are passionate about supporting children and young people with MSI and their families.

No agencies please.
